Adware is malicious software, which displays adverts on your computer and slows your computer down. Your computer is likely to get Adware if you download files from the Internet.

Lavasoft Ad-aware SE can often remove the Adware, these instructions tell you how to use the software.

Step 1) Double-click on the Lavasoft icon to open the program.

Step 2) Click ‘Start’

Step 3) If a message appears that says your definitions are out of date then go to the instructions at the bottom of the page.

Step 3) Select the option ‘Perform full system scan.’

Step 4) Click ‘Next.’ Lavasoft will now scan your computer for Adware – this will take a while so you can leave your computer running by itself.

Step 5) When the scan is complete click ‘Next.’

Step 6) Lavasoft will give a list of the infections it has found. Right click inside the box containing the list, and select ‘Select All Objects.’ This will put ticks in all the boxes.

Step 7) Click ‘Next’

Step 8) Lavasoft will ask if you want to remove the objects. Click ‘Ok.’

Step 9) When Lavasoft is finished it will return to the original status screen. You can now close the program.

Your computer should now run faster.

If a message appears which says ‘Your definitions are x days out of date, would you like to update them?’ then you will need to follow these instructions. The message means Lavasoft needs to connect to the Internet to gain information about new types of Adware. If you don’t update it – Lavasoft won’t work properly.

Step 1) Answer ‘Yes’ to the message.

Step 2) Click ‘Connect.’

Step 3) If Lavasoft finds an update it will give a message which says: ‘Download and install this file?’ Click ‘Ok’

Step 4) Lavasoft will then download the update. Click ‘Finish.’ You can now run a system scan using the instructions at the top of the page.
